Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about trauma therapy and working with Dr. Jun.
-
Complex PTSD develops from prolonged, repeated trauma, often occurring in childhood or in situations where escape is difficult (like domestic abuse). Unlike single-incident PTSD, complex PTSD includes additional symptoms like difficulty regulating emotions, negative self-perception, and challenges in relationships. Dr. Jun specializes in treating these nuanced presentations.
-
Your first session is a 45-minute intake where Dr. Jun gets to know you, your history, and your goals for therapy. This is a collaborative conversation—not an interrogation. You share only what you're comfortable sharing. Dr. Jun will explain her approach and together you'll start to create a treatment plan that feels right for you.
-
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) uses bilateral stimulation (like eye movements) while you focus on traumatic memories. This helps your brain process and integrate these memories naturally, reducing their emotional charge. Many clients experience significant relief in fewer sessions compared to traditional talk therapy.
-
EMDR intensives are extended sessions (3 hours per day over 1-3 days) that allow for deeper, more concentrated trauma processing. They're ideal for people who want faster results, find weekly therapy exhausting, or have stable day-to-day functioning and want to supplement their current therapy with focused trauma work.
-
Yes, you must be a California resident due to licensing requirements. Virtual therapy is available throughout the state, making it accessible regardless of your location within California.
-
If trauma is affecting your daily life, relationships, or sense of self, you may be ready. You don't need to have 'processed' everything first or have perfect stability. Dr. Jun works with clients at various stages of readiness and uses a phase-based approach that meets you where you are.
-
Dr. Jun is an out-of-network provider and doesn't bill insurance directly. However, she provides superbills that you can submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement. Most clients with out-of-network benefits receive some reimbursement. Limited sliding scale options are also available.
